Mr. P.K. Taneja is a Senior IAS officer in the rank of Additional Chief Secretary to the Government of Gujarat. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering Degree in Electronics & Communications from IIT – Roorkee. After joining the IAS, he has held various important positions of Public Administration such as District Development Officer, Collector & Dist. Magistrate in the Gujarat State. He has also served as Director in Dept. of Electronics and in the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers, Govt. of India. In the Corporate Sector, he has served as Managing Director, Gujarat State Fertilizers and Chemicals Ltd. (GSFC), Managing Director, Gujarat Alkalis & Chemicals Ltd. (GACL), Director (Finance), GUVNL & CMD, MGVCL. During his tenure as Managing Director in GACL (from January 2002 to November 2006), the Company achieved a major turnaround. The gross turnover went up to Rs. 1,287 Crores during F.Y. 2005-06 as compared to Rs. 933 Crores in 2001-02. The company registered Profit Before Tax (PBT) of Rs. 294 crores in 2005-06 as against a loss of Rs. 41 crores in 2001-02. GACL received “National Award for Energy Conservation” instituted by Ministry of Power, Govt. of India for two consecutive years 2004 and 2005. GACL was also awarded SCOPE Meritorious Award for Good Corporate Governance 2004-05. Mr. Taneja is a recipient of “Outstanding Manager of the Year Award 2005” from the Ahmedabad Management Association, Gujarat. From October 2004 to November 2006 he was Director (Finance) of GUVNL (Power Utility of Govt. of Gujarat) with a turnover of Rs. 12,000 crores. He was instrumental in corporatization and unbundling of erstwhile Gujarat Electricity Board into seven (7) state owned corporations which were operationalized with effect from 1-4-2005. During F.Y. 2005-06, the State Power Sector achieved ‘TURN-AROUND’ and made a net profit of more than Rs. 180 crores as compared to a loss of Rs. 937 crores in FY 2004-05 and Rs. 1935 crores in FY 2003-04. The Power Utility was rated as the second best after Andhra Pradesh by Ministry of Power, Govt. of India. He was MD, GSFC, Baroda, the largest State Public Enterprise of Govt. of Gujarat in the joint sector from November 2006 to April 2008, and also Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Gujarat Green Revolution Company Ltd., promoted jointly by GSFC, GNFC and GAIC as a Special Purpose Vehicle for the implementation of Micro Irrigation Systems in the State from April 2008 to February 2009. He was the Principal Secretary, Social Justice & Empowerment Department, Govt. of Gujarat from February 2009 to June 2011. He was also Principal Secretary, Public Health & Family Welfare and Commissioner, Public Health & Family Welfare, Medical Services & Medical Education and medical related activities of the Health & Family Welfare Department in Gujarat State from July 2011 to August 2014 He also served as Additional Chief Secretary, Forest & Environment Department from August 2014 to 14 June 2015 and as Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, from 15 June 2015 to 15 August 2016. Presently, he is serving as the Additional Chief Secretary, Industries & Mines Department, Govt. of Gujarat from 16 August 2016 onwards.
